This highly trained guard, clad in red armor and robes, belonged to the Elite Praetorian Guard, composed of 8 human warriors, and served as an elite personal bodyguard for Supreme Leader Snoke, leader of the First Order.
Praetorian guards practice various martial arts with melee weapons. The Praetorian Guard is thus composed of 4 pairs of warriors: 2 warriors armed with electro-bisento, 2 armed with Bilari electro-chain whip, 2 armed with Vibro voulge and finally 2 (including the one presented here) armed with Vibro-arbitrate.

Within the First Order, the Praetorians perform the same task as the Imperial Guards did in the past, within the First Galactic Empire established by Sheev Palpatine when he ended the Clone Wars with Order 66. They are therefore a direct legacy of this tradition of close guards around ruling leader.

Did you know that? Rian Johnson was directly inspired by the Roman Praetorian Guard to create these warriors.
In fact, the Roman Praetorian Guards were the only ones allowed to enter Rome's sacred precincts armed, as were the Praetorians in Snoke's throne room.
