Miraculously, Bilbo Baggins is no ordinary hobbit in one of his advanced years. A small person he may be, but his has been such a long and storied life, and he pursues the self-imposed duty of recording it in every detail with furious zeal.

It is for Bilbo's young cousin Frodo and other hobbits like him that he is compelled to write. Age creeps up on Bilbo, little by little, and that Tookishness in his blood stirs wistful thoughts of distant mountains and friends long gone. His mind is determined; plans are made. Now he just needs time to finish what he has started, if the unwanted guests would stop ringing the bell!

A story is only as good as the person telling it. Here, the adventurous Hobbit crawls out his stories in the comfort of his own home, free to let his thoughts wander while safe and warm. Daniel Cockersell honors Sir Ian Holm by capturing the moment Bilbo begins to write the story that will be loved by all.
